It's a fair question — if Palm Springs only gets about five inches of rain per year, why worry about gutters? The answer is how that rain falls. The desert doesn't get steady drizzle. Protecting your fascia
Fascia boards sit right at the gutter line. Without gutters, or with gutters that have pulled away from the fascia, water runs down the board face every storm. Rot follows. Replacing rotted fascia is more work and cost than the gutter installation that would have prevented it.

Desert soil can be compacted and slow to absorb water. When heavy rainfall hits the ground right at the roofline edge, it pools against the foundation instead of soaking in. Gutters route that water to a downspout and away from the structure.

Stucco and exterior paint degrade faster when water repeatedly runs down the face of the wall. Gutters keep the water off the wall and reduce the frequency of exterior repainting and stucco repair.

If you're not there every week, gutters are a low-cost form of insurance. They work passively to protect the property every time it rains — no action required on your part between visits.
