The paint technology in plain terms

Solar reflectance

Measures how much sunlight bounces off the wall surface. A white reflective exterior paint scores 0.80+ — meaning 80% of solar energy bounces off. Standard dark paint is often below 0.10. The difference in absorbed heat is enormous.

Cool-pigment technology

Modern cool paints use specially engineered pigments that reflect infrared radiation (heat) even in mid-tone colors. A medium tan with cool pigments can outperform a dark standard paint by a significant margin in thermal performance.

Elastomeric vs. standard paint

Regular exterior paint is primarily decorative. Cool Life uses elastomeric paint with reflective-pigment technology — it is thicker, more flexible, and engineered to reflect solar infrared radiation rather than just covering a surface. The result is a wall that stays significantly cooler in direct sun, reducing the heat transferred into your home. It also bridges hairline cracks in stucco that standard paint cannot seal.

What surfaces can Cool Life Paint be applied to?

We apply Cool Life paint to stucco (the most common exterior in the desert), concrete block and CMU masonry, painted brick, and concrete floors including garage slabs, covered patios, and pool decks. We assess the surface condition and substrate type before recommending a product — not all surfaces take the same primer or formulation.

Do I have to use white? Can I choose a color?

White delivers the highest solar reflectance, but you are not limited to white. Modern cool-pigment technology allows light to mid-tone colors — sand, warm gray, light tan, and similar desert tones — that still significantly outperform standard paint in heat rejection. We bring physical color samples so you can see the finish against your existing exterior before committing.

Can Cool Life Paint go over existing exterior paint?

In most cases, yes — as long as the existing paint is well-bonded and not peeling, chalking heavily, or bubbling. We power wash the surface, check adhesion, and apply a bonding primer where needed before the topcoat. If the existing paint is failing, it needs to come off first. Painting over a poorly-adhered base is the most common reason exterior paint fails early — we don't skip the assessment.

How long does a Cool Life exterior paint job last?

A properly prepped and applied elastomeric exterior paint job in the desert typically lasts 10–15 years before a full recoat is needed. Desert UV and heat are hard on paint, which is why the reflective formulation matters — it runs cooler, ages more slowly, and maintains its finish longer than standard paint under the same conditions. Annual visual inspection is all the maintenance typically needed.

How long does the job take?

Most single-family exterior paint projects take one to three days depending on home size, surface condition, and number of coats required. We power wash and prep on day one, prime where needed, and apply finish coats with proper dry time between. Desert heat actually speeds dry time significantly — most of the schedule is driven by surface prep, not waiting for paint to dry.
