That kind of heat is qualitatively different from the western valley: east-valley solar exposure is longer and more direct, and the desert floor here retains radiant heat deep into the night. Standard valley window specifications aren't sufficient.

We specify the lowest available Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) glass for south- and west-facing windows here. The same glass that meets code in Palm Springs can be undersized for Indio's sustained heat load.
We rent during Coachella and Stagecoach. Can you work around those dates?
Absolutely. Festival rental weekends represent significant revenue and we plan around them entirely. We schedule Indio projects in the gap between Coachella weekends, after Stagecoach, or in the winter season before the festival calendar begins. We account for permit and HOA lead times in that planning so nothing falls on a peak booking date.
Our 1960s downtown home still has original aluminum windows. Is that worth replacing?
Strongly yes. Original aluminum single-pane windows are thermally equivalent to a hole in the wall in Indio's climate. The improvement in cooling load, indoor temperature comfort, and UV protection on furnishings after a full-frame replacement is dramatic — and the comfort difference is immediately noticeable.
